'Morning Gail!...I switched from crockpots to the smallest nesco-roasters. You can brown the food first in them, then turn 'em down for hours of slow-cooked tenderness.
My fav would be pork-shoulder roast. Preheat roaster w/lid on for 20 min. season roast with season salt, sage, black pepper, onion power, little bit of garlic-powder. Put in roaster (On the rack that comes with it)...Brown for 45 min to an hour at 375 to 400,reduce to 325 then add 16 Oz water and check from time to time that it doesn't dry out. 2-3 hours slow-cook and it'll flake apart.
