Stupid question here...

I've been buying stocks for 20 years (old long term, buy and hold philosophy) but I'm confused by some of the posts referring to the MMs and showing L2 etc. When you said, "seeing if I can't make a 4th bid at .08" would that be to maybe grab a few stray shares (or more) or, more likely, to kind of push the bid/ask forward. Also, this may seem even more ridiculous, but when you use the wording of "seeing if I can't" are you saying that even if you bid at .08 it may not show up or somehow be represented?

Thanks in advance. I figure this board is pretty safe to ask these types of questions without ridicule...
