Stepahanie, let me be fair to Hizbullah. They have in fact done some very good things for their community. I think the Shiite community is a very important part of Lebanese society as is the Sunni , Christian and Druze. I think the diverse cultures and religions need to be turned into a strength for Lebanon. Lebanon needs a unifier. I dont have a problem if Hizbullah gains power legitimately through the Lebanese constitution. But it will definitely be a terrible step backward for the Lebanese govt. to be turned into a Theocracy ala Iran.
Lebanon is very Europeanized in its culture and diversity. It makes them very different than many other Arab countries in the region. Lebanon would be a powerhouse if it was unified. Thats what I want and a Hizbullah(Party of God) takeover will be a step backwards. As I said Hizbullah has done many good things for its own community and I applaud them for it. But they have also done some very bad things for all of Lebanon when they fire rockets at Israel from within Lebanese borders dragging all Lebanon into war. When they threaten to attack Israel if it attacks Iran. It isnt the place of religious leader Hassan Nasrallah to declare war on anyone. Its the Lebanese President, Prime Minister and Army that should be the only Lebanese able to declare such a war or fire a rocket at a neighboring country. Thats why I say that all of these miltias should be disarmed and the Lebanese Army needs be the major military power in order to maintain order and for Lebanon to have a chance for stabilty. A strong Lebanese Army made up of Sunni , Shiite, Druze and Christians and a goverment made up of all of the same groups.

I dont understand what Hizbullah is so worried about. If they say the Tribunal is fixed, then fine. If the Tribunal names a few Hizbullah officials so what? Tell them its a lie and that we wont be turning anyone into the authorties. Who is going to arrest a Hizbullah member in Lebanon?? Are you kidding me? No military authority in Lebanon has the power to arrest a Hizbullah member. Hizbullah would destroy them if they tried. The Lebanese govt. which is almost 50% made up of Hizbullah allies wont do a thing. The Army certainly wont engage Hizbullah. You think the UN or some other country will come in and try to arrest them?? Think again, it will never happen.

Yet the drumbeat of war, violence, and protests are pledged by Hizbullah if some of its members are named. Why? Are they looking for an excuse to miltary overthrow the govt.?? I think so.

I think Hizbullah is in a no lose situation here. If the report is released and they are named , they will use it as an excuse to topple the govt. If the report is not released and they pressure Harriri and other politicians to ask for the report to be squashed for the sake of peace in Lebanon, then it is also a victory for Hizbullah and it will encourage them and give them the green light to do more assasinations, threaten neighbirs, threaten politicians, threaten journalists , fire rockets without the worry of any repercussion.
