There were only three choices before welfare/social programs were instituted by Communist liberals for the ABLE-BODIED:
-Work to earn your keep,
-Leave the the U.S. and go back to where you came, or
-Starve to death
My family did not become leeches on others and chose to work hard, so they avoided returning to Italy
You will never have a strong and free country of the people (only a strong tyranny) if there are too many who do not rely on themselves for their sustenance. At the same time they bring all other citizens down with them. So much for compassion....
