EDIT: Great, go ahead, bomb our country just stick to our political opponents .. that would be like someone in an American Democrat administration telling the commander of an alien invasion ..
Hey, no problem just bomb our south!
Good point re the world ignoring the Goldstone Report (in your other).
That and the fact of Hariri jnr lies and false witness around this UN commission re Syrian involvement puts huge ??? over this report.
I have a feeling i read a long time ago that the US wasn't real happy with Harari senior .. just saying .. no inference meant .. just now.
EDIT: from a quick search result ..
On the other hand, who could have gained the most from Hariri's assassination? My guess is Israel. With one masterful stroke, Syria was thrown out of Lebanon, it was further isolated by the world community and it gave Washington ammunition for its 'war on terror'.
This latest assassination too, fits the same pattern. Syria has the least to gain from it, just as does Hizbullah. The last thing Syria needs is more of the world's attention on it just as it tries to extend its influence in Iraq, along with Iran and upstage American foreign policy in the region.
Hizbullah, on the other hand, right now needs to be perceived as a source of stability in Lebanon, and not one of disruption and terror. I highly doubt that Hizbullah wants to be drawn into a civil conflict with the Maronites.
The only regional power that does stand to gain is Israel. In the case of a civil war in Lebanon it can again attempt to project its power and reduce Hizbullah. In the current circumstances, it can probably rely on real, meaning military, support from the US which is also itching to use Lebanon as a success story, since Iraq didn't turn out very well for them... http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=16497421&txt2find=Hariri
