Not slamming GLW because of its optical components division per se. Fact is that GLW still has that division, it is doing poorly, it is up for sale, and some interested parties have already walked away from a deal.
Corning does have considerable debt coming due in the next few years, and unless it can generate some substantial profits real soon, that debt will need to be paid down through asset sales. The company may have some difficulty getting rid of its unwanted assets and be forced to sell pieces that actually make money, not a good situation.
I totally agree with you on JDSU; I'd put my money on them before I'd wager on GLW.
