LG, It is quite obvious that we have two very distinct and opposite opinions. I do not believe that there is any possibility of stopping those who wish to procure nuclear weapons. I believe the path that we have chosen only increases the desire of the ones we frighten and injure to do so. This path, I believe, only increases the chance of state sponsorship of such as Bin Laden. It is my opinion that our current path may guarantee the mushroom cloud that we all wish not to see. Regarding Neville Chamberlain's policies, apparently there was in place a plan to unseat Hitler if the world had stood up to him and the German people had shown any inclination to support the usurpers. Given the behaviour of the general populace during Nov. 8 and 9 1938 this plan was scrapped. You apparently think that if the world had stood up to Hitler we never would have had a problem with him. How do you know this? In my opinion if we had caused him to back down the German people still would not have supported a coup and Hitler could have turned to his scientists and time. Given a few more years to work on advanced weapons technology and a fear of the West possibly causing him to indefinately postpone plans to attack the Soviets, where would we have been? Would the Japanese have attacked Pearl with no war in Europe? Maybe those two powers would have worked in conjunction and come out roaring against the West in 1944? We would have been facing disaster under this scenario so in reality Chamberlain's policies may have saved the world from German-Japanese domination? Good luck to you.

LG, I have never said that I am 100% percent against taking out Saddam. My problem is looking back through the history of our interventions we have caused a GODAWFUL lot of misery to the peoples of the world and I believe that almost all of it was not only unecessary but has caused us great economic damage as well as much pain for our "common" people who carried out these missions. It makes me quite jaundiced in my views when asked to do it yet again. If we continue to go around the world killing folks we can expect at some point to have the favor returned. In a previous post I mentioned the Kurds. How many times are we going to use these people only to turn around and screw them? You also said that the Republicans want this and PBS would not air propaganda for them. BS. We would be right here with Gore/Liebermann as well.
