I am sorry about the treatment of Muslim women but they have been treated that way forever and there is nothing we can do about it. And it happens all over the world, not just in Muslim countries. They are often forced to marry men who rape and beat them. Their whole lives are controlled by their fathers and husbands.

We would like to protect these women but you can't control these religious fanatics who care nothing for human life. At least in western countries there is punishment!
Islamic apologists will again assure us that honor killing has nothing to do with Islam and is a cultural practice followed by a wide variety of peoples -- and yet Muslim girls keep getting killed in disproportionate numbers. No one, of course, dares to confront the root of the problem by pointing out such inconvenient truths as the fact that a manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that "retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right." However, "not subject to retaliation" is "a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring's offspring." ('Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

On Monday, 12 April 2010, Sherin Zayed (al-‘Attar), from Beit Lahia town in the northern the Gaza Strip, was killed allegedly to “maintain family honor.”
According to the field follow-up of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 11:50 on Monday, 12 April 2010, the body of Sherin Khamis Zayed (al-‘Attar), 32, was brought to Martyr Kamal ‘Edwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, as she was hit by several bullets to the head and the chest. The chief of police in Beit Lahia town, Sameh al-Sultan, told a PCHR fieldworker that the police opened an investigation into the incident and arrested a number of the victim’s relatives, including her father. The father told the police that five masked gunmen raided his house on Monday morning and pulled his daughter outside the house and fired at her. Data provided by the police indicates that this crime was committed allegedly to “maintain family honor.”

Banaz Mahmod, 20, London, July 19, 2007 A Kurdish woman was brutally raped, stamped on and strangled by members of her family and their friends in an "honor killing" carried out at her London home because she had fallen in love with the wrong man.
Banaz Mahmod, 20, was subjected to the 2-1/2 hour ordeal before she was garroted with a bootlace. Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and taken about 100 miles to Birmingham where it was buried in the back garden of a house.

Jordan Honor Killing: Man Confesses To Brutally Stabbing To Death Pregnant Sister 4/12/2009 AMMAN, Jordan — A Jordanian man confessed to stabbing to death his pregnant sister and mutilating her body to protect the family honor, said Jordanian authorities on Sunday.
Prosecutor Mohammed al-Tarawneh said the man turned himself into police and has been charged with murder.
The 28-year-old married woman was five months pregnant and stabbed repeatedly in the face, neck, abdomen and back as well as being hacked up with a meat cleaver, according to government pathologist Awad al-Tarawneh.
Police familiar with the case said the woman had moved back in with her family after an argument with her husband six months earlier. The brother believed that she had then started seeing other men.
The names of those involved have not been released.
The incident, the ninth such case this year and the second this month, took place in the village of Basira, in the conservative Bedouin heartland of southern Jordan.
Strict tribal and religious values are enforced in these villages, including the belief that women carry the family's honor.
Around two dozen women are killed each year in these conservative areas of Jordan by male relatives who typically accuse them of besmirching the family honor through adultery or having sex outside of marriage.
International human rights organizations have condemned honor killings in Jordan and appealed to King Abdullah II to put an end to the practice.
