China builds a train that goes over 300 MPH but Amtrack loses money and they want to build a "high speed" train that will average around 100 MPH maybe.

Amtrak goes 79 mph. Most freight track is good for 90 mph, however going 80+ requires a control system called ATS or ATC, which most lines do not have.


Study shows that Amtrak loses $32 per passenger. Did you know that taxpayers are paying $32 for every person who takes a trip on Amtrak?

An “NBC Nightly News” segment on April 11 examined the $8 billion destined for Amtrak that was included in the stimulus bill recently signed into law by President Obama.
