You can also spot them by the areas the show wear (they will appear washed out, or lacking details), but without the tale-tale signs of small minute scratches that you find on circulated coins. Uncirculated coins should have the fine details that make them really pop out/stand out. So it might benefit them to get access to a coin catalog that tell them what the correct weight should be. Other tools are a good electronic scale, cotton gloves, magnifying glass, and small baggies. Avoid anything rubber, because rubber corrodes silver. Possession of any non-genuine coin that is not specifically labeled "copy" or "replica" is subject to prosecution for counterfeiting. I do everything I can to discourage the spread of these fakes.
