I am an independent observer, with no stake in the matter except a dislike of the killing of non combatants (and conscripts for that matter) on both sides.

Your parallel with Hezbollah and the Canadian scenario could be reworded with the following example:
How would you feel if GWB invaded Canada, was beaten back, Canada came down to New England, took your home and GWB conceded defeat and made no compensation to you or no attempt to win back your land. You and your neighbors take matters into your own hands and fire some rockets into Canada with GWB tolerating but not publicly supporting your actions.
And to answer your question quoted at the top of this post, my original post on this subject was in response to you declaring the Knesset a democracy. My point is that all the people in the land claimed by Israel are not allowed to vote so Israel is not a democracy. That is down to the definition of democracy, not me telling Israel what to do.
