The beauty of the FLD was that it worked a new angle. As Lonegrey once put it so eloquently, a FLD play supposedly did not rely on the condition of the company, just the Market Maker's usual and customary efforts to make an orderly market that could be turned against them.

Hence the beauty: for those potentially jaded by decades of over-optimistic pumps that arrived first by fax and then later by email, the FLD was a new angle on the pump n' dump that nobody had ever tried before.
