News U.S. Company Launches First Private Space Capsule December 09, 2010 An American private company called SpaceX has successfully launched a space capsule into orbit and then guided it back to Earth, marking the first such achievement by a private enterprise.
The spacecraft blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, atop a massive rocket and the capsule entered orbit about 10 minutes later.
The spacecraft circled the Earth twice before reentry and a splashing down into the Pacific Ocean.
No one was aboard the space capsule, but it has room for seven crew and an ample cargo hold that could one day supply the International Space Station.
