QCOM answer - They are down on the food chain. The only thing more profitable than a combined IP and manufacturer is an exclusive IP (i.e. - overhead and obsolesence and labor and materials and...).

They pay hell for getting their ideas legite though.

brainlessone, nokia is the #1 proponent for GSM. They are licensed for most CDMA flavors but they are very late to the party. Samsung in particular is eating their lunch on CDMA phones. Samsung is now 3rd in worldwide sales being a close 2nd to motorola. Nok continues to refuse to buy chips from QCOM alto they source some thru a Korean sub (telson). In general I'd say that QCOM and NOK are going in separate directions at least for now.

Ericcson phones are not doing well for many of the same reasons. Ericcson's is fully licensed for all CDMA flavors (I believe) but their real CDMA involvement is on the base station (at least the non handset side), i.e., building out the CDMA networks. I believe that NT and LU are the majors in building out CDMA networks worldwide.

Can't comment on TXN or STM. RFMD is certainly a beneficiary of CDMA success and I believe their CDMA related business has been reported to be doing very well.
