We were running a real-time multi-user preemtive multitasking OS on an MC68040 with 40 MHz / 1990's. 32 MB Ram 300MB disk ..supporting 24 Users and 6 printer 24hrs./7days .
Those were the days , roughly 1 MHz per User and efficient software !
PS: Built own Mobo in PC format with SCSI, VME and ISA buses. Serial I/O ports RS-232 ( built VME-cards as well - 8 ports per card )

Good questions. It is the little things like this that annoy me the most about Windows. That, and sometimes when things go wrong, there is no way to determine what it is.
