Others are selling pryolysis oil for crude oil prices? Please tell me which ones. Otherwise your analogy is poor.
For the first part, I'm actually a person who believes hydrocarbon-only plastics can be pyrolyzed and probably make a decent fuel of some sort. However the $500/ton cost for sorted hydrocarbon-only plastics equates to $75/bbl for just the feedstock (diesel is 7.15lb/gallon) even if 100% efficency. At 90% efficiency, the cost goes to $83/bbl for just the feedstock. Mr. Bordynuik claims he can get paid to take hydrocarbon-only plastic for free--and anyone who is gullible enough will believe him.
As another analogy, I'm sure hundreds of tons of aluminum gets landfilled every day but if someone claims that they can get it for free and that it will be sorted when they get it, then they either are dilusional or are hoping you are.
