More oil drilling not an answer

More oil drilling not an answer

The controversy over drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has reached a critical stage. The drilling proposal has now been included in the budget bill and in the next couple of weeks Congress will decide if it passes. This is a sneaky attempt to get the drilling approved when 53 percent of Americans are opposed.

ANWR is the world's largest wildlife refuge and the Arctic's last. Oil production would devastate Native American and wildlife populations. The U.S. Geological Survey has determined there is only a six-month supply of oil in ANWR. It would take 10 years for it to reach the market and it would have no affect on gas prices. Development of clean and renewable energy resources is the solution, not destroying the refuge in order to obtain a drop in the barrel.

If you have ever enjoyed the outdoors or visited a national park you should understand what this issue is about. Michiana, please contact your members of Congress and demand oil drilling in ANWR be taken out of the budget.

Indiana's Senator Lugar is a key member of Congress who we have a chance of swinging. Visit http://ga1.org/campaign/Arctic for more information.
