ItalFarmaco does have some IP in this area. But it is a) ancient, and b) shows little to no expertise in analyzing complex oligosaccharides. What it does show is an ability to filter glucosaminoglucans, including heparin, to remove the higher molecular weight components, and an ability to chemically depolymerize glucosaminoglucans, including heparin. Thus they can make their own LMWH. They are nowhere near characterizing enoxaparin. Heck, most of this stuff was done before MALDI and ESI mass specs were even commercially available.
