Brigsy, thats quite abit of greenback for ya :)
But to your question. Your brokerage agreement, when you signed up for an account, was when you place your order, the agreement is, to fill your order at the price you asked, OR BETTER. So when you place an order at 0010, and there are 5 MMs at 9, the broker is going to get you filled at 9. Thats the way brokerages work. Its always at your price, OR BETTER. Thats why its impossible to jump above the bid for the most part, unless a stock is going volume nuts and the buys are flying like crazy and the MMs cant keep up. Thats the only time Ive seen bid hopping.
So not sure how that works... I remember about a month ago.. there was one lone market maker, VERT, sitting at the ask of a stock... asking 0030 I think it was... Yet, every single order that went thru was 0055,0055,0058,0060 and so on up the ladder, and it kept going and going yet VERT remained at the top at 0050 at the ask. So not sure if that was a glitch or what, but I he stayed at the top for about 30 or 40 minutes, and when he realized he was being bid hopped, he eventually fall off, and joined the other MMs. I am not sure of those print prices are accurate, all I know is that VERT kept getting bid hopped, glitch or no glitch, and if memory serves me right, this was my HLXW stock that this happened on when it ran from 0050 to .03 cents.
I do imagine that we will most defiintely see some major bid hopping once the stock takes off running. But other than that, I do not think you will be able to bid hop until then. Ive tried it, with absolutely no luck.
