FNM: A level playing field or stacked deck?

Is it time for a thorough investigaion and review of the residential realestate industry to determine if presumed 'free market' principles are operating for the benefit of all who participate in the market? From the top down and the bottom up, is it time to measure the length of the arms, of the presumed arm's length transactions which occur within the residential realestate market? It appears to me that the only participants not benefiting from this largess is the unrelated, owner occupying, house buying public. Are free market forces hampered and skewed by appraisal inflation, loan fraud, title insurance fraud, inside information, and other manipulation and exploitation which harm the house buying public? The benefits accrue to all participants in the residential realestate market except the innocent consumer who truly deals at arm's length in the purchase of a house. Is there a level playing field in this industry or is the deck stacked against the consumer?
