The only ones showing up in Berlin are the arsonists. You are living in Dreamland if you think a vacant industrial site in Berlin will attract mixed use developers. Maybe in Portsmouth, but certainly not in burned out Berlin.

You mean the same developers that were lined up when the mill was going out of business and before Laidlaw got involved?

Is lining up a "POTENTIAL" developer best and highest use that you and your ex mayor support?

To quote the current mayor, I support the "best & highest use of the site" and biomass certainly is not the best & highest use for that property. To be honest, it is my opinion that the "do nothing alternative" is better than biomass in downtown Berlin. All my opinion of course. If LLEG were building a plant in your back yard, you might feel the same way.

If you're thinking "If we build it, they will come." You're living in a Field of Dreams.

Without tax incentives (negative for the town), no one is going to bother.

I certainly can not speak for the area, but from what I hear it's pretty desolate. No one is going to build without an existing customer base, and you're not going to get an existing customer base without jobs.

Even if you build a large mall with restaurants and stores and maybe even some town homes or condos - the main draw is going to be more tourist in nature, and businesses need regular customers for sustainability - not ones who show up every two months because "they haven't been there in a while."

you're nuts. No one is gonna do that. Locals and workers know the business of lumber and wood and that's what will be done. No one would move there and the prison doesn't provide enough jobs either.
