History:
The Reliance Prospect consisted of five patented claims covering a prominent
shear zone. Four ofthe claims were allowed to come open. In 1981-82 Mike
Woitowicz staked the shear zone and optioned the ground the 81. Joe Canada.
Only then became it apparent that there are seven shafts along this structure.
Only two were known previously.
St. Joe Canada enlarged the holdings to more than 80 claims, covering the high
grade gold showings on Frenchmen island in Manitou Lake and also the
rediscovered(by Wojtowicz) Queen Alexandria Mine east ofCarleton Lake.
Most equipment had to be flo\\,TI into Carleton Lake and dragged through the
bush to the reliance shear zone. While the company staff did a credible job, they
were hampered by access problems and lack ofexpertise in gold exploration.
Old Workings:
Seven shafts within one mile were put down at the turn of the century along a
prominent shear zone. No reports about this work can be found.
