#2208 RE: PMS Witch #2207

PW,

Here ya go ....

EBENEZER ELLIOTT
(The Corn-Law Rhymer)

Born 17 March 1781, Rotherham
Lived in Sheffield 1819-1841
Died 1 Dec 1849, Gt. Houghton
Buried Darfield Parish Church

Ebenezer Elliot has been called "the greatest man that Rotherham has produced". In the book "History of Sheffield" he was recognized as a 'Maker of Sheffield' and as a mark of respect for his work the City Fathers of Sheffield erected a large statue to him in Weston Park.

So who was Ebenezer Elliot and why is a poet so famous in South Yorkshire?
