the concept of god is a tried and proven way for scammers to make a living, like the black dude in the news who was porking young men while generating a huge income badmouthing gays.
It has been thus and such for millenia, con men extracting gifts and cash from people they have been able to instill fear in and play on their superstitions. Turning fear into compliance, and teaching the rules of good behavior to those who probably already understood them innately.
Things such as the Inquistion slaughter happening simultaneously with the human sacrifice cults of the Inca are some truly great coincidences, but not all that strange, when you think about it. Easier to control and communicate power when fear of death is the draw.
The ignorant are always the most compliant, witness the poor slobs in the tea party. Religion has always been the bane of science, and vice versa, because knowledge is power, and advancing knowledge causes religion to lose power. So science is always suspect to the cults, as the truth just tends to prove that bizarre beliefs like sacred cattle are just that, beliefs, and not based on anything with basis in truth or fact. Even magicians cop to the idea that they provide illusion, not real magic.
The unholy marriage of fundamentalists and the tea drinkers just reinforces the idea that people turn to religion for emotional reasons that don't require thinking.
So nope, your construct of god doesn't play big into my daily routine, either.
