if jp Morgan can advise on what is the best partnership or should they just go alone
So you think that Ariad Management (PhDs etc.) are going to see a sell-side analyst and try and get advice from them (an analyst who covers 30 other biotech companies and not Ariad, specifically) on how to partner the drug considering what they already know from partnering ridaforolimus, etc.?
Liklihood of that happening: 0.00000000001%
The chances of them going to see their investment banker and asking them about raising money is much higher.
You are confusing investment banking with stock analysis. There is chinese wall between the two. If they were meeting the investment bankers (deal advice etc.) you WOULD NOT hear about it. And, no way can there be analysts and Investment bankers in the same meeting (after the tech crash rules were changed...). The 3 million shares you see for JPM is in the asset management devision where they are held in the client funds. Again, strict wall between asset management and SELLSIDE analyst. Its good they are having this meeting. No need to confuse stuff with BS.
