pantera - funny you should mention

power grid.

I'm not going to assume bin Laden and the next generation of terrorists are as "brilliant" as the nonsense we've been getting dosed with by our government to cover its semi-incompetent rear end (e.g. "We couldn't possibly have envisioned airplanes as flying bombs, or been able to stop them because this was such a sophisticated scheme") ... but if they (the terrorists) were very bright ... their next attack would be using an e-bomb and going after electronics and our power grid.

Killing people isn't going to win them friends or advance their goals/aims. And no matter how long they spend at it, they flat out can't kill enough people to wipe us out, which is what they'd need to do before we'd just give up.

If you believe the U.S. will never back down from fighting terrorism directly in the Middle East unless we're literally wiped out, and if you believe the terrorists, while potentially capable of a horrific act every 5 years or so, couldn't ever wipe us out entirely, then that's a permanently losing strategy.

BUT, what if they could, without killing tons of people, take an action that disrupted American lives and destroyed American commerce? What if they could do it cheaply enough to be able to repeat it at will? What if they could hit us in the proverbial pocketbook?

I hate to say it, but there are a lot of people living in other parts of the world who don't condone senseless killing of people, and therefore can't and won't support WTC-type attacks, but who wouldn't have a ton of sympathy for the U.S. if someone played a game of economic strongarm with us. There are a lot of people around the world who think we're "ugly"-rich, and worse, that part of how we keep ourselves so rich relative to the rest of the world is via economic strong-arming and the advantages of the economic bully. In varying degrees, there are a lot of people around the world who resent the U.S. for that.

If the terrorists have half the brains our government claims they do, the E-bomb is what they're out there assembling.
