...and do you HONESTLY think this guy has a chance to win?

Not really, but my major frustration is the fact that this situation is endemic of the entire political climate right now. That a Republican can be honest (and unashamed) enough to explain his own ideology on camera and make it sound good, speaks to the utter lack of messaging from the Democratic party.

Democrats made the mistake of blaming Bush for everything, but then it got tired, because the Republicans countered (successfully) that Bush is no longer president, and that the Democratic argument was a straw-man.

Instead, the Democrats should have targeted the Republican philosophy of trickle-down Reaganomics, of supporting the wealthy with obscene levels of support, and believing that this will somehow create a tide that raises all boats - or in other words, "trickle down" to the rest of America.

The fact that Bush failed at this isn't a Bush problem, but a Republican problem. Democrats have done a poor job of communicating the difference between growing the economy from the tops-down, and growing the economy from the bottoms-up.

I think if you asked most people if they would prefer the Right-Wing philosophy of cutting basic services to give tax breaks to wealthy people and large corporations, in the hopes that it would motivate already hugely profitable entities to spend money and hire workers, I think the people you asked would be very skeptical, if not strongly against it. And if you explained that these basic services you'd like to cut were Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment compensation, I think you'd be met with torches and pitchforks.

But the Democrats never mention that these things are at risk in a Republican controlled Congress. They never explain that the next "stimulus" will be a check to Walmart and Exxon-Mobil, and be paid for with cuts in education and public safety. You know, those "pork barrel projects" that offer to give our children a future and protect us from crime.

David Wu may be the incumbant that wins, but the whole system is going to lose if Republicans take back control of Congress.
