However, I was very suspicious about the anonymous "hedge fund" that was quoted twice as some kind of an expert on these things.

I wouldn't put it past such a hedge fund to ghostwrite the entire article and submit it to a Chinese media outlet. This happens all the time in the U.S. media, where much of the content you see was written elsewhere by P.R. hacks for companies/groups with vested special interests. The group originating the article is then quoted within the article as if it is an "outside expert." It's entirely corrupt but happens FAR more often than most people think. It's basic "P.R. 101" in the biz.

21st century financial sure is a common name. Muddy Waters does use jounalists in China and I'll bet the author's article is one of them. I don't own ONP but the article makes me wonder who Muddy is setting up to attack next.
