First of all, as you know, I've been interested in the association of non-classical viral diseases for many years. This interest caused me to seek out Dr Francis Peyton Rous, the discoverer of the first known tumor-causing agent and do an extensive, in-depth interview many years ago on the nature of his discovery.
I was in touch with Dr. Mikovits when she first announced her findings. I was very pleased to see that her initial findings were corroborated by other research groups.
The first thing to do is await some more confirmatory studies where they will try to establish a causal effect by first developing an animal model and then challenging the animal with the XMRV virus in order to see if it causes disease. That's one of Koch's Postulates.
Once that connection is clearly established, we'll have to decide if we want to pursue that work or focus on our other projects in development. If we decide to go ahead, we would model the drug on the computer, create it and send it to her for in-vitro testing.
This is all very speculative since it's necessary to wait for the other studies that are in the works. That should give a more definitive answer about the nature of the virus and its ability to cause disease.
