Try setting browser.cache.disk.enable to false

I don't think FF opens disk cache objects non-buffered and I'm too lazy to look through the source code. I'd guess that it would throw the object in the memory cache but am not positive about it.

For me, Firefox is never disk bound.

Firefox disk writes

I think you just indicated the answer when you talked about cache objects being partially written to disk.

Do you know if firefox opens any of its cache-related files as Non-buffered? Looks to me as though it might do, just to reduce problems. That's fair - you need the most robust code possible and there's lots of people who do dumb things.

Yup I know about about:config. I have a couple of changes in there, mainly so that Outlook can handle the mailto's. Its not paging that's the issue - I can monitor that fine. The program is disk bound for me on the 5 machines I use.

mmoy.
With respect to decaw's observations.
Would having BITS, " Background Inteligent Transfer Service", in Windows services, being set on or off, have an effect?
With the two Raptors in RAID 0, I have no problems.

With 8mb cache drives stuff seems to work better with the service running.

A Ins. Co. client of mine had problems on the LAN, after turning BIT's on thay were gone.

Best
