MMK

A firewall is good for anyone. I consider it an essantial for always-on connections such as DSL or cable. This is because these connections are normally assigned a static (non-changing...like your street address) IP address. This makes your computer an easier target for hackers to make intrusion attempts. They can keep coming back to you day after day trying to find a way into your computer. Most attempts to break in to your computer are not serious attempts at stealing info or doing any real damage but just kids seeing if they can. Kinda like why do you climb mountains...because it's there. If you have anything on your computer that you don't think you want the world to see (financial records, credit card numbers, your broker account numbers and pass words, etc.) you should try to protect yourself.

Dialup isp's normally assign a dynamic (constantly changing)ip address to your computer every time you sign on so the danger of getting hacked is not as great but is still present.

Now, to answer your real question, ZoneAlarm is the best free firewall available and it is free so why not protect yourself. Yes it works just as well for dialup as it does for cable and did I mention it's free. JMHO

Disclaimer: I am not and never have been an employee of ZoneLabs and am not nor ever have been paid to use their free firewall. :-)
