MNTA: I cannot buy any more. Wish I could. It took the market awhile, a few weeks after posting positive data, for other big winners potential to be realized- DNDN and HGSI. After positive data in April of last year DNDN closed at $17. HGSI closed at $12. I understand that the general market has gone up but there is no reason MNTA can't fly soon. Man if only Teva got rejected!!
"There are also so many conspiracy theorists who think the price is 'being held down' or that the 'big boys are shorting' so they can get in at cheaper prices ...." As with every other stock that doesn't live up to expectations. I wondered if the discussion about MNTA would get around to these DNDN-type theories (I silently bet that it would), but I don't read much MNTA commentary other than right here. Wouldn't mind someone pointing me to some of that stuff, as it's sort of a hobby for me.
I love to read all the "conspiracy" theories, they make for great entertainment! When you are long and the stock is going down - it's because someone is "manipulating" it. But when the stock goes up it's because you (I mean anyone - no one in particular) are a genious. That's just how the mindset of the average retail investor works.
Option premium has been wrung out of MNTA now - so options are relatively cheap if you need/want to hedge or speculate. But AMAG might be a similar example where it collapsed post approval from $75 area to $25. AMAG had a $1.5b++ market cap right after approval and slowly bled down to about $500m. Sometimes the hype/expectations are much greater then the "new" reality and the issues/problems having to market/sell a real product provide many more nuances then "approval vs non-approval"
I can't think of one company which has recently gotten approval that isn't dramitically lower then the announcement day and MANY are actually lower then their "pre approval" levels. It seems people have been buying the "dream" and selling the news - atleast for the first 6 - 12 months after approval.
Most of the members think the market needs time to digest the news and "study up" on MNTA ... i don't think that is true because markets are extremely efficient and get to "true value" sooner rather than later...
Although I would like the price to be higher, I agree. I think the $19-21 range is going to be the new "normal" for MNTA.
