compression stockings vs anticoagulants
I would like to see another head-tohead study like the one published in JBJS, powered for efficacy before
I second that thought. The data cited deal with numbers of patients too small to meaningfully calculate significance. In particular, I wouldn't want to try to extrapolate NNT (number needed to treat) from that set of data. My guess is that a larger study would show that compression stockings are not quite as effective and, therefore, widespread adoption in lieu of anticoagulants would be able to demonstrate a small NNH (number needed to harm) because of a slight increase in DVTs and Pulmonary emboli.
