Frankly, I am very disappointed in the current administration, such lack of imagination.

Hey, they're from Texas. <vbg>

It's not about Saddam. It's about oil.

I'm sure it was briefly considered, but I don't think they want a big investigation into past US ties to Iraq, and deep US complicity in Iraq getting WMDs. Cf., for example, http://www.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/09/26/column.novak.opinion.iraq.history/ where the Prince of Darkness Bob Novak of all people details some of that history.

And here is a recent speech by Robert Byrd on the same topic:

Have you ever SERIOUSLY consider running for President? Why can't you be a Henry Kissinger type of person? I don't want to sound trite here, but honestly, Zeev, I have greatest respect for you, and have seen you possess great wealth of knowledge, whether it is physics, engineering, or in political, social, historical realm. Besides, unlike the idealistic left and the hawkish right, you HAVE real ideas and real solutions to offer.

I would vote for you in a heartbeat. Ever thought of establishing a "Cool Hed" party or the "National Turnips Front"? <gg>.

Your suggestion of an indictment against Saddam is good. But the US will not seek such an indictment because of their complicity in the war crimes of the Iran/Iraq war.

Iraq started a war it couldn't finish due to Iranian human wave attacks. US wanted Iraq to win and supplied satellite intelligence as to where the human waves were amassing, knowing full well that Saddam would use chemical weapons.

Anyway, what is this obsession with chemical weapons? How is it any worse than to die or be maimed from the burning shrapnel of carpet bombing?

US opposes chemical weapons because it reduces the technological advantage the US possesses when using conventional weapons. Nothing to do with humanitarian reasons.
