AD, I picked up Dent's newest book to read on the plane to California. As it would be Delta was showing to good movies that I had not seen and a sleep most the rest of the time so I did not get far.
I too am skeptical about his call that the next 4 years will be like the four years prior to 1929 preceeding the 'great depression'. He does throw out enough items of interest to keep one thinking though.
He does say arithmetic charts are for doom and gloomers and logarithmic charts are the way to go. Using the logarithmic chart of the nas 5000 hitting in 2000 makes the event look more like a just a small speed bump in the course of the last 30 years. I would like to have him show a arithmetic chart of Japan whose demographics are more closer to ours but 7-10 years ahead, and there run to 40,000 on the Nikkei and fall, compared to out run to a Naz 5000. IMO, it has only been the massive liquidity that was added to the economy that has kept us proped up as long as we have. I just don't see the catalyst to run the DOW up over 30,000 to close to 40,000 as he promotes ahead.
