talk to Cyclone- they have test results. As far as pistons vs turbine, I think you're missing the point about a heat regenerative engine. There are many, many reasons the Cyclone would match favorably in a comparison. Especially in versatility and a way less expensive engine to manufacture. A turbine would work better perhaps but only in a narrow set of operating constraints. Don't forget a Cyclone can operate effectively without a transmission, starter motor, petroleum lubrication, complicated ignition and fuel delivery system. All of this is just my opinion.

I think the problem is any attempt to trap the water and run it closed loops would work to bring the engine into equilibrium and kill it. With a piston, you can control the feedback into the cylinders, and vent if needed with check valves to maintain a dis-equilibrium state.

If you go open loop, then you need a constant water supply.
