Intel effectively solved the FSB performance difference in 2005 with big caches and a bunch of IPC improvements. Of course AMD did better in some workloads.

I think that it was Spring 2005 when the benchmarks came out and nobody could believe them and later on they were verified.

There are actually 2 interfaces Intel has patented. The CPU2CPU connection and the CPU2SB connection.
