But it's just not promotional products............your everyday stuff like letterhead and business cards are a lot more expensive with 4 color process.

I personally feel a logo that is not flashy or gimickly denotes professionalism.

I still like creative logos. Two of my favories were the old Milwaukee Brewers logo, M & B formed a glove:
