#6179 RE: PMS Witch #6166

For the life of me, I cannot comprehend how it generated so much venom directed at you

I think most of us are cool now. Give the ability to opt out, and make "personal" things like age, portfolio size, net worth, and income selectable from wide ranges rather than specifying amounts, and the squawking will be minimal at best.

And by having ranges instead of amounts, it'll be a lot easier to work with on the back end. Advertisers don't want to (or need to) see that the average annual income of an iHubber is $75,313.87. What's more relevant to them is what percentage make 50-100k, 100-200k, 200k+, and the like.

I want it to evolve into something a lot more useful for other purposes, and, yes, probably more "invasive". For example, if it turned out that more than half all of iHubbers are into golf, that'd be a relevant bit of info that could get us ads that'd be interesting to a lot of our community. A common argument I have with our ad agencies goes something like "These people are savvy investors. How many of them do you suppose really thinks they just won a prize? Especially if they get notified of that on every other click?"

This whole survey thing is also the engine that'll drive site polls in the future and possible polls that can be started by members of the community.
