I've been watching hurricanes for about 10 years, and the last 6 reading the actual reports the National Hurricane Center puts out. What you hear on the local news and frequently even from the Weather Channel only have a slight sembalance to the actual data. I never read the stuipd advisories. I just go straight to the discussion. Then check the graphics to see where they expect it to go, and then the cumlative wind distribution to see where it has been. And then if you want a little more data, I check out intellicast.com and get the viusal and ir loops. Sometimes my just for myself guesses on what's going to happen are better than the pros. They themselves will tell you, they are still learning. They use 5 different computer models and use what seems to make the most sense.
Right now they are only looking for 105 kts and it appears it's going to hit in southwest Louisisana. I've been looking on the maps and don't see much there. The last storm through took a lot of the heat out of the gulf, so it won't been able spin up all that much. Won't hit it looks like until Thursday afternoon. So far it looks like the insurers are going to luck out without much happening.
