Alcon acquires private cataract-surgery company called LenSx Lasers
for $362M in cash and $20M in contingent payments:

Inasmuch as Alcon is battling NVS with respect to the terms of NVS’ acquisition of Alcon’s minority shareholders and NVS has not yet installed its own directors on Alcon’s BoD, Alcon’s purchase of LenSx strikes me as an IYFM maneuver. I don’t think Alcon is throwing its money away on the LenSx deal, but neither do I think the deal was motivated strictly by business considerations.
