extelecom,
<< I believe from what I have read that there may be questions about what is the best quality for TV's?
I am definitely no expert about TV's, but I think I read something about Plasma TV's having some kind of fading problem.
Seems like one article I read seemed to favor the DLP TV's for some reasons. I did fond one article about LCoS here and it isn;t very favorable >>
From what little I know (sorry if this is redundant), it seems the options on the Hdtv/big screen front are -
1) PLASMA - best now from what I hear, but most expensive, might not last long (5 year life span?), and has fade problem...have a few friends who have Plasmas and they love them. Also, just saw the 102-inch Samsung Plasma (the biggest TV in the world) at the CES in Vegas and it was amazing.
2) DLP - Texas Instruments owns this technology, I believe. Gets ripped on bc of a 'rainbow' effect from action scenes, but I believe its getting better. I believe the CEO of TI said that DLP has grown from 0-15% market share of big screen market in 2 years...might be fastest growing market if true...must be something good there.
3) LCD - Just like most flat screen PC monitors. Heard Sony's 3LCD was the best technology from a few tech geeks at the CES (im one too ;-).
4.) RPTV - Rear Projection TVs. Not sure exactly how they fit in with the other technologies, but I believe the LCOS chips from the likes of SpatialLite (HDTV) and Brillian (BRLC) are used for them. Both claim their LCOS chips are better than the others. ;-) Intel was gonna jump in this market, take the low end and destroy everyone in a few years (my thoughts there ;-) but then they suddenly bailed in the Fall, I believe. Thought it was result of cut-backs, trying to reel in expenses, but not sure. Also not sure if they got back in?
When I did a little research on SpatialLight early last year, seemed they were a little hypish and too reliant on a few Asian contacts I had no clue about, but thats just my opinion.
Always looking for a good way to play the move to HDTV and don't have a great play yet...any good ideas?
cheers,
AH
