For the same reason that every nuclear plant and nuclear waste site around the U.S. and the cities and people near them, want the nuclear waste that's currently stored there, moved.

Because many of the sites are beginning to "fill up" with nuclear waste, such as the Hanford Site....where hull sections (containing the nuclear reactors of warships/submarines) are not only piling up, but are now beginning to show signs of nuclear contamination (of the wildlife, etc surrounding the Hanford Site).

Abandoning the waste "as is" is a very dangerous and very costly proposal.
