I don't think mere speculation is a good explanation...this stock has been hovering in the ~0.001 range for at least two weeks. If a PR was released today the speculation theory may have more credence.
I'd like to think that somebody started a (potentially true) funding rumor. Presence of more "legitimate" MMs is promising as well.
