<<I assume that they always pick the eye that is worse to start with as the study eye, so if the other eye has AMD at an earlier stage it may be more likely to show improvement.

I believe study eyes had to be 20/200. So in some cases the better eye would be the study eye.
I'm trying the confirm the 20/200 requirement, but I can't find the reference directly.
