Actually, I don't think I've ever seen crude oil freshly pumped out in real life and in person, other than say what you see on tv, magazines, internet, etc.
I've seen motor oil out of a bottle, and I've seen used motor oil out of my car, which is how I imagine what crude oil would look like, namely, black, liquid, and viscous. But I doubt that used motor oil at your local Jiffy Lube is the exact same as crude oil pumped out of planet earth...although it is recycled, so one might think that old motor oil is as good as crude.
And for all we know, Sao Tomean crude oil is unique and possibly even not crude but more sweet than other deep water oils.
So if Peter N has never actually seen crude oil in person, I don't think that's a crime...at least until ERHC assets finally produce oil that is, at which point, I'm sure he'll make a visit to Sao Tome, once they let air planes fly there.
