about the well..
they hit methane. at those pressures, methane is a crystallized solid. the methane came up the pipe as a crystal and expanded on the way up. blew past the safeties and, with the pressure of expansion blew out a room in the rig. the gas blew into the engine room where the explosion happened.
when they placed the dome over the leak, it filled the top of the dome with crystals ( i assume more methane but they didn't say that.) so the dome can't be used because it would lead to a repeat of the original conditions that caused the explosions.
sounds like a massive pocket of methane. a seriously bad greenhouse gas.
if they drill into the well from the side, they will most likely hit the same conditions.
i see that they are asking for suggestions this morning.
