Intuition, yes. Experience, yes. You don't use TA blindly. You aren't in JBII for the TA.

You'll never see a statistician nor actuary who uses TA unless he's trying to sell you a book or something. They can predict the death rate on a population of 40,000 at Bristol-Myers Squibb with eerie accuracy using massive analysis of historical data, but the same computers fail to see any predictable pattern on stocks like JBII.

I always thought that the best was a mix of fundamental and technical analysis. Fundamental analysis to help pick stocks to pay attention to and technical analysis to help decide exit/entry points.
