Oh get off your high horse, Mas. Intel isn't always ahead in technical merit. Being the market leader doesn't mean it's any easier to innovate and provide the right products at every inflection point.
Though Intel does have the resources to hedge bets, it still takes some serious leadership to remain one of the most innovative companies in the market. And that's not easy, especially against a competitor who has proven time and time again that profitability is not a concern.
