#39022 RE: The Freep #39016

Freep, I used to take something like 4800 mg of Ibuprofin a day back in my gladiator days. I stopped when I read Pro-Bowl Safety Kenny Easley of the Seattle Seahawks had to retire in 1988 and have a kidney transplant due to overuse of Ibuprofin.

I figured since my Doc had prescribed me 800-1600 mg every 4-6 hours when I had achilles tendonitis, I'd have no problem using that for chronic injuries.

Well, I tapered off that stuff and realized you build a tolerance for it over time, requiring you to take more and more of it to get the same effect. I used to go through those 500-pc bottles like crazy. Now one lasts me quite a while.

I think the drug companies are reaping what they sow. If they want to rush something marginal to the market and blitz the airwaves with consumer ads, they should be prepared to be sued into bankruptcy. I'm against frivolous lawsuits, but what these folks were doing with some of these meds was beyond belief.

The FDA needs a total re-vamp as well, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that.

BTW, the worst stomach ache I've ever had came after taking 1600 mg of Motrin (my prescription) on an empty stomach and playing a league basketball game, getting pretty dehydrated in the process. I was doubled up and on the floor half an hour after the game for a good half hour more.
